We would love to have you on board, sharing your wisdom and experience with the next generation of Scientists, Technologists, Engineers and Mathematicians; inspiring them to jobs they never knew were open to them.
You should be a professional currently working in, or with previous relevant experience in, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. This experience may be in academia or in industry. Scope is given to the trustees of Epistemic to determine whether your experience satisfies these requirements.
Our main focus is on using video-conferencing technology rather than trying to physically get you to schools or youth groups. This will increase your reach and allow for flexibility in timing. For example, a session could be run in an evening during a youth group meeting without impacting too heavily on your working day. An added benefit of this approach is the reduction in your costs and your carbon footprint achieved by the reduction of travel.
You will be required to hold a DBS check as well as undergoing specific training in safeguarding and Epistemic’s policies before performing your first session. You will be assessed by one of the charity trustees as you may have previous experience in communication with young people or working with them in seminars and workshops. Again, dependent on experience level, supervision from one of the Epistemic trustees may be required initially during a “probationary” period, to support you as well as satisfying the trustees that the aims of Epistemic are being achieved and that the policies are adhered to.
These sessions will be entirely virtual through various video conferencing platforms. Your session may vary in content from a simple Q&A to a guided workshop, dependent on the request from the school or youth group. We hope to provide you with training in virtual presentation skills from RADA, whilst allowing you to work towards your Continuing Professional Development goals.
