Epistemic may be able to help with bringing STEM subjects to life in your school. Sessions could be tailored so that they fit into a dedicated slot during Personal, Social, Health and Economic lessons.
By building up a large base of STEM professionals, the hope is that this will enable your school to contact Epistemic and request a speaker of a similar demographic to the group of young people they will be addressing.
Rather than being tied to geographical locations which are convenient to STEM centres or near the professionals’ homes, we can run sessions based anywhere with a reasonable internet connection. Schools and groups located further from traditional companies (who might send out representatives) or further from universities with strong applications of scientific research, may have been less likely to receive presentations and workshops in STEM fields. With our charity, this no longer needs to be the case, increasing the outreach of our work to young people from less affluent backgrounds, inner city schools, or groups based out in rural parts of the UK as well as the conventionally reached groups. One of Epistemic’s main aims is to increase the diversity in the STEM sectors by delivering sessions to young people who otherwise may not receive them.
The speaker will be required to hold a DBS check as well as undergoing specific training in safeguarding and Epistemic’s policies before performing their sessions.
